* Hideaki Shirata *

Hideaki Shirata is an assistant professor at the Hosei University and a part-time lecturer at the Hitotsubashi University and the Musashino Art University all in Tokyo Japan. He took the degree of his doctorate in law at the Hitotsubashi University in 1998. His doctoral dissertation was published as "The Development of Copyright: Its Origin in England and Development in America, (Shinzan-sya Pub. Co., July 1998)." The work investigate the origin of the idea of copyright from 1476 and its development to 1891 in detail. The work is the first exhaustive legal history of Anglo-American copyright law written in Japanese.

He has written and spoken extensively about the challenges that new information technologies pose for traditional legal regimes, especially for the intellectual property law. He also has been interested in ethical matters of a computerized and networked society.
